Long-Lasting Dog Chews for Power Chewers
If you have a power chewer, you already know the drill.
You buy a new chew. You hand it over. You turn around to put the bag away, and when you turn back it's gone. Your dog is staring at you like, okay, what's next?
It's not cheap, and it's a little frustrating. So let's talk about what actually makes a chew last, and why so many power chewer parents end up with a yak cheese chew.
Why some dogs go through chews so fast
Some dogs are gentle nibblers. Others treat every chew like a job they need to finish before lunch. Big jaws, lots of energy, or just plain determination can turn a "long-lasting" chew into a five-minute snack.
Most chews that soften as dogs work on them, like a lot of jerky-style treats, don't stand a chance against a dog like that.
What makes KHICHCHA different
KHICHCHA is a natural dog cheese chew made in Nepal from a traditional Himalayan recipe. It's basically milk that's been turned into a block of cheese so hard it barely feels like food.
On our Chewmeter, it sits at an 8 out of 10. Your dog can't just bite through it. They have to lie down, get comfortable and slowly work at it, softening the edges a little at a time.
That's the whole secret. A chew that's hard to finish is a chew that lasts.
It's not just about saving money
Sure, it's nice when a chew doesn't vanish in minutes. But there's more to it.
Chewing is how dogs burn off energy and calm down. A dog with something good to work on is usually a dog who isn't working on your shoes, your couch leg or the TV remote. A long-lasting chew gives them an outlet, and gives you a quieter afternoon.
And since KHICHCHA isn't greasy and has very little smell, you don't have to banish your dog to the backyard to enjoy it.
The leftover piece is a bonus
Even the toughest chew gets small eventually. When it does, take it away so your dog doesn't try to swallow it.
But don't toss it. Soak it in warm water for about 5 minutes, then microwave it for around 45 seconds. It puffs up into a light, crunchy snack. Let it cool all the way, and hand it back. For a lot of dogs, this is the best part.
Picking the right size for a power chewer
Size matters more than people think. A chew that's too small can be a choking risk and gets finished faster anyway.
A good rule: pick a size your dog can't fit fully in their mouth. If you're stuck between Medium and Large, go Large. For power chewers, bigger is almost always better.
A quick honest note
Hard chews are great for strong chewers, but every dog is different. Always keep an eye on your dog while they chew, keep fresh water nearby, and skip it if your dog has dairy sensitivities or is under 4 months old. If your dog has dental issues, check with your vet first.
From the Himalayas, for your best friend
